Bowaters Paper Mill, Corner Brook, Newfoundland After Graduation
from UBC Forestry in 1961, I got a job in Corner Brook as a 4H
District Worker. My job was to organize new clubs and teach forestry,
woodworking, gardening, cooking and sewing projects. On one very
cold January day, I passed by Bowaters Paper Mill and captured this
historic photo, because the mill was shut down in the 70's then
sold. They do not stockpile the wood any longer. The mill is located
along the Humber River and this log stockpile on the left of the
photo was floated down on the river. Today they bring in the wood
by trucks as they need it. The mill reopened and the area where
the wood was stockpiled is developed. |

Papirgyár, Corner Brook, Ujfundland A soproni
egyetemet Kanadában Vancouverban végeztem el 1961-ben.
Rovidesen Ujfundlandban kaptam állást a 4H -nél
az ifúsággal foglalkozni. Erdész, kertész,
faipari, szakács és varró szakköröket
kellett szerveznem s oktatni. Egy nagyon hideg januári napon
a Bowaters papir gyár mellett mentem el, és készitettem
ezt a képet. Ma már ez egy történelmi
kép, mert mert a papirgyárat a hetvenes években
lezárták majd eladták. A kép baloldalán
látható nagy rakás fa rönk a gyár
melletti Humber folyon lett leusztatva, s igy tárolták
a fát feldolgozás elött. Ma már teherautón
szállitják a fát ahogy a szükség
megkívánja. Az uj tulajdonos a tároló
területet átadta üzlet komplexeknek. |
